GENERAL EVENT

RECLAMATION: TARA JUNE WINCH

SUNDAY 17 MAY – 4.00-5.00PM

HEARTLAND FESTIVAL ROOM, AOTEA SQUARE

“A ground-breaking novel for black and white Australia” said Man Booker prizewinner Richard Flanagan of Paris based Wiradjuri author Tara June Winch’s third book The Yield. It tells of a woman searching for her identity, her grandfather’s dictionary, and a way to stop a mining company destroying her ancestral land – a site of settler invader violence and one without a treaty. Following the 2006 publication of her poetic debut novel Swallow the Air, Winch was named a Sydney Morning Herald Best Young Australian Novelist, and mentored by the Nigerian Nobel prize-winning Wole Soyinka. She has subsequently delivered a story collection and written the script for a dance documentary. Together with Nic Low, Winch discusses her work and the big questions facing her homeland.
