SiR on Tour
Dreamy and sensuous, yet with a steely edge, SiR's music has an intoxicating effect. The singer and songwriter is a visionary talent who's able to bring all the hallmarks of classic soul and R&B straight into the here and now. A live SiR performance is a showcase of the breadth of sounds and styles heard on albums such as November and Chasing Summer. His versatility points to a wide range of influences: Growing up in a musical family in Inglewood, singing gospel in the church choir and collaborating with an array of artists from Stevie Wonder to Kendrick Lamar.
SiR in Concert
A standout artist even in the formidable roster of Top Dawg Entertainment, SiR is fast becoming one of the most distinctive new talents in R&B. Born and raised in Inglewood, California, SiR grew up as Sir Darryl Farris — his mother gave him his unusual first name to ensure he was always spoken to with respect. As the minister of music at her church, she also instilled in him and his older brothers — two of whom would go on to write songs for Jaheim and the Pussycat Dolls — a love of gospel and the traditions of choir singing. (His uncle Andrew Gouché, a bassist for Chaka Khan and Prince, provided another musical role model.)
In the late 2000s, at age 23, he began his career as a songwriter, working with Anita Baker, Ginuwine, Jill Scott and Stevie Wonder. SiR then emerged as a record producer with the 2012 mixtape Wooden Voodoo and Long Live Dilla, a 2014 tribute to hip-hop legend J Dilla. Appearances by Anderson .Paak, Knxwledge and Iman Omari — fellow members of L.A.'s underground scene — helped bring attention to his 2015 release Seven Sundays.
In 2018, SiR released November, a captivating set of neo-soul that marked his debut for Top Dawg Entertainment. The album included appearances by ScHoolboy Q and Etta Bond as well as productions by DJ Khalil and Andre Harris. Yet in spite of the impressive slate of guests and collaborators on November, and enthralling spots by Kendrick Lamar and Lil Wayne on his next album Chasing Summer, SiR remains the center of attention thanks to the West Coast warmth of his vocals and his depth and sensitivity as a songwriter.
