Acerca de We Are Scientists

The American rock group We Are Scientists, or W.A.S, began in 1997 when band members Keith Murray and Chris Cain met at college in Claremont, California. Vocalist Murray and guitarist Cain were then joined by drummer Michael Tapper and We Are Scientists’ loud and lively rock sound was born. Moving to New York in 2001, the band soon developed a loyal and devoted fan following. They used their own label to release Safety, Fun and Learning In That Order in 2002, before their growing success landed them a deal with Virgin Records.

Their first album on Virgin Records was the breakout hit With Love & Squalor. With a title inspired by a JD Salinger short story, the 2006 album’s success surpassed all expectations. Citing influences such as David Bowie, the band focused on creating an album packed with songs that fans would want to hear live. Drawing favorable comparisons with groups such as The Killers and Franz Ferdinand, the album sold well in the US and beyond. It featured hits such as “Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt,” “It’s A Hit” and “The Great Escape,” and fans immediately took to the band’s effortless mix of indie rock and ‘80s punk.

The success of the album saw the band tour throughout America and Europe. Although drummer Michael Tapper left the band in 2007, the following year saw the release of their second album, Brain Thrust Memory. Showcasing a slightly more mature sound, the album clearly showed the band at their technically proficient best. The band supported the album’s release with a number of high-profile festival appearances across Europe in addition to opening for Kings of Leon on their American tour.

Joining forces with former Razorlight drummer Andy Burrows, We Are Scientists released their third album, Barbara, in 2010. In the same year, original band members Cain and Murray branched out from music into the acting world when they recorded a number of comedy shorts later to be aired on MTV. Settling again in New York, Cain, Murray and Burrows spent much of 2012 and 2013 in the recording studio working on a fourth album, TV en Fran*ais.
